Founded in 1989, the EAIE is the European centre for expertise, networking and resources in the internationalisation of higher education.
At the EAIE, we are building an ecosystem where fresh ideas and best practices can flourish and shape the field of internationalisation. As a member-led organisation, we provide a platform for learning, networking and knowledge exchange. Our activities are geared towards helping professionals succeed in their work. We equip academic and non-academic professionals with best practices and workable solutions to internationalisation challenges and provide a platform for strategic exchange. We partner with key stakeholder organisations and institutions to promote our membership interests and advance international higher education. In short, we are dedicated to promoting and driving responsible international education in Europe and beyond.

Advocating inclusive, quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for everyone are the foundations to the UN’s SDG 4, and this is also part of the EAIE’s mission. Education helps reduce inequalities, fosters intercultural understanding and aids conflict resolution. We encourage best practices among internationalisation professionals so they can play their part in making the world a more inclusive and better place. Steps we have taken to support SDG 4 in the context of international higher education:
The International Student Mobility Charter: developed by the EAIE and a working group of international higher education associations, the mobility charter advocates for international students’ rights. It calls for institutions, regions and governments to facilitate mobility and seek to guarantee that international students feel protected when studying abroad.

Our vision is an equitable world in which international education connects diverse perspectives and fosters greater understanding. We believe that international education has the power to create a better world.
Our mission is three-fold. We aim to enable the international higher education sector, demonstrate the impact of internationalisation, and influence and engage policymakers in support of our vision.
EAIE Strategy 2026: a plan for an equitable future
The current strategy is the product of an extensive collaborative process between stakeholders in the sector, volunteer leaders, members and EAIE staff. Our strength lies in the diversity of voices in our community which together help make us stronger and more prepared to tackle emerging issues as they develop in the education sector and the world at large.
